Hello! My name is Cindy Converse, and I love to help students master mathematics. I have been tutoring for over 25 years. Over 10 years ago, I started tutoring online.
My personal story in mathematics helps me to be empathetic to students who are having a hard time with math. For me, elementary math was great! I had no difficulties with the concrete nature of basic arithmetic, but then I hit algebra. It made no sense to me, and I remember crying over my math homework. My goal was to become a veterinarian, so I was required to take at least a couple of college algebra classes. To my surprise, I loved my first math class in college. At that point, it just clicked for me, and through a series of experiences with math classes and working with animals, I decided to change my major to math in my sophomore year of college. I went on to graduate summa cum laude from Seattle Pacific University with a B.S. in Mathematics. While I truly love math, I have found that what I love even more is trying to help other people understand math. My early difficulties with algebra have given me a sympathy for students who either fear or hate math.
